The akpi is a round and blond seed very present in the kitchen in Ivory Coast. Its taste is very pronounced and it is characterized by hints of peanuts. It is crushed or pounded before being incorporated into hot preparations.

These almonds are the fruit of the Ricinodendron heudelotii, an oleaginous tree from the tropical forests. They allow us to thicken our preparations: soups, fish broths. It is used as a flavor enhancer in the African cuisine of forest peoples such as Ivorian cuisine.

Ricinodendron heudelotii kernels are relatively high in protein, fat, phosphorus and potassium. The kernel of “Akpi” (Ricinodendron heudelotii) is very commonly used and the high oil content of the seeds makes it suitable for use in soap and varnish factories.
